Njeri Rutherford is a Detroit, MI native with a B.A in Dance and Communication Arts from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. She began her dance training at Detroit Windsor Dance Academy and was drawn to dance as a career while attending the International Association of Blacks in Dance conference in 2011. In 2017 she relocated to New York City to pursue dance full time. Since her move to the Big Apple Njeri has worked with Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and The Yard. Njeri has danced professionally for The Wanda Project, O’Toole & Dancers, ‘Adikted to Dance’ Dance Company, and DanceTheYard and has performed on stages both nationally and internationally. She has also choreographed for several festivals and conferences including Charlotte Dance Festival and the American College Dance Association. Currently she is working as a freelance dance artist and serves as the Development Associate at Movement Research.
The next phase in her career include professional dance, modeling, event coordination/marketing, service to youth through the arts and entrepreneurship.
